How I take notes (and why they live here)

A simple system for capturing what I learn so future-me can find it.

I used to keep notes in five different apps. Now they live here, as plain Markdown files in a Git repo.

Why plain text

  • It lasts. Markdown will open in any editor, decades from now.
  • It’s searchable. Every note is one file, so grep works.
  • It’s shareable. Publishing a note just means pushing a commit.

My rules

  1. Write the note for someone else. Usually that someone is me in six months.
  2. Start with the problem, then the fix.
  3. Keep it short. If a note grows too long, split it.

Adding a new note

Create a file in src/content/notes/ like this:

---
title: My new note
description: One line about it
date: 2026-10-04
tags: [example]
---

Write here...

That’s it. The site picks it up automatically.
